DJ / Videographer
(1 vendor)
Below are honest portrayals of the pros & cons of multitasking. Ultimately, we share this to prime expectations.
These videos are not perfect but offer a pragmatic approach for clients on a budget - content over quality.
1 Angle
July 2023, our resident DJ / videographer David covered his wedding DJ role while filming.
Typically one camera’s adjustments would be masked by another better angle, offered in our MultiCam package. Instead, this method offers an alternative no frills approach with a price-tag to match.
All in all, minimalist editing applies.
Lighting changes due to passing clouds were color corrected modestly.
Audio was mixed between the on-camera mic and the officiant’s lapel recorded through the DJ mixer.
Nevertheless, filmed on a Sony FX3 with a 70-200mm lens (focal length may vary based on ceremony space). Deliverables in 4k!
1 Videographer / Multiple Angles
We generally don’t offer our MultiCam package without 2 separate videographers.
The samples below come from and an event that only booked a highlight reel; Ceremony & Toasts videos not included. Still, we wanted to test the limit.
Ceremony
David set up 4 cameras…and then it rained!
Once the rain passed, he reset the cameras and mostly manned a mobile gimbal - the primary angle used in the highlight reel filmed for slow-mo’s at 120 fps.
Some unattended tripods angles went out of focus, guests stood in front of them, etc.
Other times the bride, groom, and officiant moved out of frame without a videographer present to adjust static cameras.
Still, not a bad result considering the multitasking involved. The client purchased these videos after the event, appreciating a raw glimpse into their day.
Grand Entrance > Welcome Speech > Blessing
A few learning curves:
The bride and groom danced out of the spotlight, lending for some darker, grainy images at times
The wide angle was too far from the mic during the welcome toast & blessing though offers a glimpse of the crowd
More than enough was captured for their highlight reel. All in all, they were still able to relive their first dance, welcome speech and blessing in the video below:
Toast
David set up…
2 angles on either side of the stage / dancefloor,
1 more long lens in the balcony,
and then caught some b roll with a moving gimbal.
A fairly large venue, David got his steps in while clicking record on 4 cameras - the one upstairs burned the most calories :)
All of this for a 2.5 minute video :)
Side note - don’t stand to far from the mic when speaking, feedback may occur!
One of the cameras downstairs slipped out of focus though the other 3 angles allowed the bride & groom to relive the moment.
Without further adieu, the highlight reel they originally booked:
If you’re okay with the obstacles faced and the final results of this single vendor approach then please let us know, we are happy to do our best! This is our most budget friendly video package and we welcome interested clients.
